Joshua Bird Vinyl Wall Art

Joshua Bird Vinyl Wall Art

One part cheeky, one part modern, and totally playful (and my latest late-night Etsy purchase). It's going to look great on the wall to my cube at work.

$8 ; at Elephannie's Etsy Shop.

Day 2 of W.E.I.O.

Holy Hannah, the chill has finally arrived and oddly enough, I couldn't be happier. I woke up this morning shivering and stating excitedly, "it's freezing!" Bring on the fall wardrobe! At last!

Yesterday was Dean's Grandma's birthday, and it was finally cool enough for me to bust this little number out of hiding.

09.16.2007 (day 2 of W.E.I.O.)

vintage dress: thrifted
black boots: Wal-Mart
black fishnets: no idea
black beaded necklace: Claire's
small black bag: Old Navy

By the way, I didn't attempt to dye my hair orange in some strange pattern, it's the sunlight.

I call this "June Carter Cash in hooker boots."

Speaking of Miss Cash, my coiffure originally was back-combed and poofy and looked just like hers, but thanks to the wind, it went a bit flat by the time I managed to take a picture.

Now I'm off to get dressed (and rather excited about it, thank you autumn chill). The first thing I'll be donning is a good pair of socks, my toes are turning into tater tots.

The Unrealistic Christmas Wishlist

Alas, I am back and am feeling rejuvenated. Thank you for all the good vibes, they were inexplicably helpful. Now that I'm through my rough patch, I'm becoming increasingly more and more excited for the upcoming holidays. Even though I just recently had a birthday, I'm already thinking of things I want this year for Christmas. I'm sure I'm not alone in being overly wishful around the holidays, so this year I've made an "unrealistic wishlist." I'm sure I could have gone a little more crazy with this, but I suppose this is more of a realistic unrealistic wishlist, har har.

Unrealistic Christmas Wishlist

1. a balenciaga city motorcycle bag.
2. an antique couch.
3. vintage throw pillows.
4. a granny square blanket.
5. a vintage gunne sax dress.
6. vintage cat's eye glasses.
7. a blythe doll.
8. a polaroid camera.
9. a kewpie doll.

Hey, maybe I'll luck out and actually get one or two of these for Christmas. The throw pillows and the polaroid camera aren't all that unattainable. So what's on your "if money were no object" wishlist?

Renewed Appeal of Size Appeal

So I've known about Size Appeal for a long time, and even purchased from it sporadically. But recently at Lee Lee's Valise (which I wrote about in my last blog) I had a chance to try out some of their newest stuff and I have to say I really like it!! It reminds me of a plus size H&M - affordable, disposable fashion in fun, funky colors and designs. These are not high quality long wear garments, they are seasonal pieces - but a cute top for twentysomething dollars, I don't mind! Lisa D (the owner of Lee Lee's) told me she is selling out of the Size Appeal stuff in her store and has had to order more! If you can't get into Lee Lee's to try it on, check out Size Appeal's website:

Left: Acacia Top in Mustard, $29
Middle: Elaine Top in Teal, $29
Right: Joanna Top in Blue, $29

Left: Captivate Dress, Black & Red, $68
Middle: Harriet Dress in Red, $52
Right: Serenity Dress in Black, $49

All available at SizeAppeal.com!

Compartmentalization

Love the idea of a place for everything and everything in it's place? Then the Round Turnlock Hobo from Olivia Harris is for you!

It's a classic hobo style, with extra style to spare. Twin front pockets and a larger zippered pocket on the outside of the bag make for lots of places to keep your things...and of course there is the amply sized interior with it's own set of pockets. The shoulder strap is adjustable to suit everyone's comfort length, and is in a contrasting darker leather, which is continued as a stripe down the sides of the bag. Piping detail all around gives the bag a very finished look making it one of those casual, timeless bags that crosses the generation gap.
The color, a beautiful cognac is the sort of shade that mellows and gets better with age.
The Olivia Harris Round Turnlock Hobo also comes in black and is $495 from Luna Boston.

SweetHome.gif
One of my favorite rainy day movies is “Sweet Home Alabama.” Depending on my mood the day I watch it, I always switch which guy I want Reese Witherspoon’s character to pick. Tell us, what is her nickname in the movie?

Made for a woman, fit for a man

I am really loving the Marc by Marc Jacobs Spring handbags in the flesh far more than I had anticipated. So many of them have this vintage 70s and 80s Euro vibe.

That was the era when man bags crossed the Atlantic and came into vogue, even if for a brief, and often satirized time, and this Airliner Jacquard Magazine Clutch is the sort of unisex look that was so popular. Truly, with the groovy bubble letter signature Jacquard (which only is apparent as such up close) and in the navy color, it's even a bit more masculine than fem altogether. A perfect place to stash a wallet, keys, cell phone, i-pod, planner, newspaper...really, with so much to carry, it's a wonder that men still insist on stuffing their pockets instead of just giving in and stowing it all in one place.
And finally, an alternative to the ever present turnlock! (really, it was looking like a fire sale at the hardware supplier) The new bags have this nifty attache case style slide lock! I'm so digging it!
Really, I think this bag can hit on the little tapped men's market for bags that are not oversized, work-ish, or messenger style. Too bad chances are it will remain, with all it's boyish charm, in the women's handbag department...but I bet fashion savvy guys will know how to find it!
The Airline Jacquard Magazine Clutch is $258 and available from Neiman Marcus.

Day 3 of W.E.I.O.

The Happy Hippie is a sick hippie today, so this will be short. My schedule for today consists of vegetating in bed with North and South on DVD. Mmm, Patrick Swayze.

09.17.2007 (day 3 of W.E.I.O.)

Yesterday's ensemble was simple, casual, and most of all comfy because I was already starting to feel under the weather. Speaking of weather, it's officially chilly, and I enjoyed pulling a cardigan out of the closet yesterday. Layers, delicious layers.

Hopefully I'll be feeling better tomorrow, and my post matter will be more interesting. My apologies until then. Toodles!

Who you calling fatto?

Fatto a mano, means hand made...I don't know if this tote, named Fatto A Mano, from Carlos Falchi is in fact crafted by hand, but it sure is made with glam!

The exotic python embossing saves this bag from being too 'beach club lady", though as with most metallic shiny things, it's up to the wearer to keep it from sliding into the tacky zone.
Generously sized, with enough inner pockets and features to organize even the busiest jet setter this bag is a workhorse. With it's included mini zip pouch, it goes easily from carry-on, to beach, to overnight, to work.
You can get a Fatto A Mano in silver, gold or pewter for $230, from Calypso.

Congratulations to the Winner of Contest 4!

Congrats to notjustanyprincess for winning Customized Girl's Fourth Design Contest! She wins $200 and her design will be featured in the May 23rd issue of US Weekly.

Contest4Winner

We like the design because it stands out, with very big text and nifty use of the soccer ball clipart to replace the “O”. We also like the personalized touch with the name and jersey number. Very nice. On top of all these cool qualities, it also happened to coincide perfectly with our “sports” theme this week. If you're joining a rec league or just cheering for your favorite player, you've come to the right place for custom shirts!

Thanks so much to all who entered! You guys are doing a terrific job on these designs, and we are very happy to continue with these contests.

And with that, Contest 5 is launched. Simply create, save and tag your design “contest 5″. Please see our post about Contest 4 for more details.

Thanks again, and congrats to notjustanyprincess.

Amethysts!

It has been so long since I last posted that I've almost forgotten how. Valentine's Day and its aftermath have kept me busy, then the indescribable sickness that comes from having fibromyalgia stole most of this last week away from me, keeping me bedridden and much of the time in a deep sleep ( asleep I don't hurt though!). I haven't managed really to get anything new posted on the site, much less make new jewelry (still working on custom orders, too).
The two bracelets here are composed primarily of amethysts, the February birthstone, and I've done something I don't usually do: I've used the same lampwork beads for both bracelets. These lampwork beads are very different from most borosilicate beads; they have different colours and a strange opal-like quality as well without really being opalescent. The colours led to the mixture that you can see in the bracelet above. Large faceted rondelles of pretty blue aquamarine mix well with the amethysts with the addition of the lampwork. And I do love box clasps with stones set in them.
The next amethyst bracelet uses the lampwork beads and dark and light amethysts in faceted nuggets and rounds for a more homogeneous look. Bali and Karen Hill Tribes sterling silver accent the two. They will both be on the Amethyst Bracelets page of the Cluny Grey Jewelry website.
I'm still rushing to catch up, so if you want some information about the amethyst gemstone, where it gets its name, etc. see last year's February post.
Meanwhile, everyone pray for Spring!
